Hello, and welcome to Wilderness Manuals! All of information provided on this site has
been released by the United States Army. The manuals cover important wilderness survival and camping
issues including first aid, making shelters, hunting and map nagivation. The following is a brief
overview of what each manual has to offer.
- Map Reading and Land Navigation: This manual, which is based on Army FM 3-25.26 provides a standardized source document for Armywide reference on map reading and land navigation. Topics
covered in this manual include understanding how to read different types of maps, aerial photographs, and determining scale and distance. Land navigation of all
types of climates is also included, specifically nagivation through mountains.
Survival, Evasion, and Recovery: This manual, which is based on Army FM 21-76 is a very broad manual for wilderness survival. It touches upon camouflage, stealth movement, making shelters in all types of
climates, navigation in all types of climates, medical issues (first aid), hunting and storing food, and much more. This manual is a must read!
First Aid: This manual, which is based on Army FM 4-25.11 covers all aspects of first aid that one needs to know before entering the wilderness. Topics include
First Aid for fractures, climate injuries, and bites and stings. I strongly encourage everyone to read this manual
Topographic Symbols This manual, based on Army FM 21-31 is a great read if you are interested in map reading. This manual describes the topographic symbols and abbreviations authorized for use by all echelons in the interpretation of military maps, overlays, and related features and activities.
Field Hygiene and Sanitation Based on Army FM 21-10, this manual will inform you how to stay healthy during your camping adventure. Topics include how to avoid cold & heat injuries,
information about water/food diseases, and illnesses relating to plants and toxic fruits. Other important issues that are raised deal with maintaining physical and mental health.
Basic Cold Weather Manual Crazy enough to go camping in cold weather? This is the manual for you! Based on Army FM 31-70, this document deals with the issues of clothing, equipment, shelter and movement during harsh, cold climates.
